Shared Folder Access Issues - KB5003173

This is a bit difficult to explain given I am not very technical, but after several days after trying to fix the issue, uninstalling KB5003173 and reverted back to KB5001330 fixed this issue.

I use Hamachi Logmein to gain access to a shared folder on another private network. After installing this windows update, a couple weird things started happening.

1 - The number of active private Hamachi networks per windows firewall increased from 1 to 3. These were duplicate names. The number of active private networks reduced down to 1 after uninstalling.

2 - I was unable to gain access to any shared folders. I could see them in the network, but encountered a permissions and/or cannot locate file error when I tried to access.

I hope this is enough to get attention on how to fix so I can turn back on windows updates at some point in the future.

    Hi,
Firstly, can I ask which windows patch version you updated? And your network is composed of Windows 10 Home edition or any others?
In this topic, you said you were unable to gain access to any shared folders by installing the patch KB5003137. As far as I know, some users may counter this issue when they update for Windows 10 Version 21H1 (KB5003173), and most of cases can be solved after they uninstall the KB5003173. You may try to roll back the update by now and wait for the newest windows patch update issued. As you mentioned Hamachi Logmein, it’s a third-party program. I’m not sure if it caused this issue after you did the update, and I would suggest you post a new thread in their official forum to see if it was related.

    Best Regards,
    Mulder Zhang

I have a similar problem where attempting to connect to a passwordless network share prompts a login dialog when attempting to browse with Explorer. I can confirm that a request for login details when trying to access the same share from the command line with NET USE.

Please treat my report as another test point with regards to Jcomer-8249's initial report. My testing was done along side Jcomer-8249 and while he could access the shares after uninstalling KB5003173, I could not. Even after uninstalling KB5003173, the problem persisted. But in my case I also had a few later updates that were installed as well, including a feature update. Windows Update would not allow me to roll back those updates so I could not align my Windows environment to his.

I later tried updating Windows fully to 21H1 on 5/27/2021 and there was no improvement. The only recourse would be to reinstall Windows. But how can I update only up to the problem patch? This is very frustrating. The only way I can access these network shares is through a virtual machine which maps to a network drive. I can then map that network drive to a shared folder and access that from the host machine.

I can confirm on the same computer that attempting to access the same network share with an older version of Windows 10 on a virtual machine allows me to access the shares correctly. No amount of configuration on the server-side allows me access. This appears to be purely a client-side issue related to an update to Windows 10.
