Multiple Windows functions stopped working

Greetings to all of you,

I was simply changing the ownership of Local Disk C to my current user account, in order to grant myself all the permissions I need (although the account is ADMIN type, but since an update occured a lot of months ago, my admin privileges got damaged, also Microsoft Store and Windows update, but I got it and didn't show any more interest in solving the problem, as none of the solutions found worked).

Now, the problem is that all the services related to Windows stopped working after the ownership transfer finished. Therefore, now I cannot:

• access Start Menu;

• access Search Bar;

• open certain settings, like "Add new user on this computer" (it works via Groups & Local users settings, but not anymore via regular settings);

• view any picture, because "the app didn't start";

• there may be many more things affected, but I didn't try them all.

At the beginning, I tried to use Powershell and Cmd. Prompt (both with admin privileges), but none worked. I tried other complicated stuff found on the internet. Again, nothing worked, as there might not be the same situations as the one I'm in now.

Therefore, I am here to ask the community for opinions regarding the case.

    Hello IonutGabriel1,

    Thank you for updating me that information. I'm sorry if it didn't resolve all the issue.

    Please try to Perform a Repair Install of Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade. It will definitely help in resolving update errors. Performing this can repair broken operating system files while preserving your personal files, settings and installed applications.

    **Few things to check on the PC

    1. Important: Back up your personal data and files to an external hard drive, USB thumb drive, or cloud location (such as OneDrive).
    2. Ensure you are signed in or have administrator rights to do a repair install
    3. Unplug all external peripherals except for the Mouse, Keyboard, and LAN cable before starting
    4. Disable or uninstall any 3rd party Anti-Virus program to prevent it from interfering with the upgrade

    Kindly try to use the media creation tool.

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-downlo...

    Download the media creation tool and save it to your computer.

    Open the tool and select Upgrade this PC now.

    Make sure to select Keep personal files and apps.

    It might take some time to install Windows 10. Your computer will restart a few times, Make sure you don’t turn off your PC.

    Sincerely

    Hello again,

    I'm not surprised to see that ''Reset your PC'' worked (thank you again), neither to see that another problem occurred (pure bad luck).

    Now, none of the Windows basic applications is installed (store, calculator, calendar etc.). I hope there is a solution in order to resolve this too.

    Mention: Yes, I reinstalled all the applications using PowerShell (failure, sadly).

    This is how the Start Menu looks like (once I clicked an application, there appeared a white horizontal bar on the corresponding square, like it was downloading, but it's impossible while Store is unavailable):

    This is how the Notifications Bar looks like (missing calendar):

    Hello John DeV,

    Thank you for your message.

    Yes, I tried to settle the problem by creating a new local user account, but it didn't work. And honestly, I tried to avoid resetting the computer, thinking that it might fail too. But now, I see it as the last solution, so I am going to start the process. I will return with the final result's report.

    Until then, best wishes and take care.

    Hello IonutGabriel1,

    I'm John an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user like you. I'll be happy to assist you today. I understand you have a problem with Multiple Windows functions stopped working. It would be best if you will consider doing a "Reset of your PC" with keep my files option selected since most of the troubleshooting methods failed.

    Have you tried creating a new local administrator account?
