Activating Windows

So I just changed my mainboard and windows need re-activating, I searched in the community that contacting Support can help you re-activate it.

However, the previous key that I got was from a third-party and I doubt that Support can do much and I can't remember who was my seller.

So, my question is kinda stupid so I apologized in advance:

If I buy Windows 10 Home on MS Store: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/windows-10-home/d76qx4bznwk4?activetab=pivot%3aoverviewtab

Do I need to re-install Windows again or Microsoft will just automatically activate Windows for me?

Thank you

Hi Sanderson96 -

I'm Kevin B. Independent advisor and a Windows user like you. I do apologize for the inconvenience that you experiencing right now, let me help you sort things out.

Is the windows 10 came pre-installed on your computer? If so, then changing the hardware should reactivate your windows. Please see the link below.

For your question, Once you purchase the key from the Microsoft Store, you will not re-install the OS again, it should automatically activate your windows.

Hope this will help and have a bless day!

Thanks.

I got the Windows 10 Home this morning from Microsoft store and activate it.

It works, thank you so much.

Just a future question, if in the future I change my mainboard again, but keep my SSD that install the OS, what should I do to re-activate Windows?

    Thanks for the reply.

I have the Home edition one.

Sorry if I sound dumb but I can't remember the seller that sold me the key on ebay so I can't use the key to reactivate it again, if that's what you're asking

    Hi Sanderson96 -

Thanks for the reply, for OEM windows, the activation is on the motherboard of your computer. Which means that if you have changed the motherboard you need to activate the copy of your windows using digital license first.

    Regards,

    Kevin B.

I just put my SSD drive that have the activated Windows in it. So I just change my mainboard, GPU and CPU, the hard drives stay the same.
