Wifi connection problem whenever opening windows explorer or any folders or files saved on my computer.

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am using Windows 10 that is updated till today with the latest windows 10 update.

I am encountering this problem for quite a long time now. Whenever I am opening any file / folder on my computer that is saved on my computer and / or are downloading a file from the internet using a browser which asks me the location where I have to save the file, my wifi freezes for 4-5 seconds. This freezing of wifi is particularly causing me problem with the Video Conferencing Apps such as Zoom, Cisco Webex, Vidyo, Vidyo webconnect etc. which freezes for 4-5 seconds whereby neither can I hear or see someone nor can someone hear me or see me (my video freezes for them). Further, with this, there is even a pop-up / message that is displayed on my screen by the video conferencing software that the internet connection is weak. At times, the call gets disconnected and I have to reconnect the call.

I have been facing this problem for almost 6 months now and I have become somewhat used to it, but at times it is very frustrating as it hampers my work if I have to work on a file with having shared my screen with someone else during my WFH over some video conferencing application.

I have tried all the possible solutions mentioned here : https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/opening-file-explorer-causes-wifi-to-cut-out/a6ef001e-39e9-4539-b2e3-df285834ce1a and during the System file checker tool, I did not receive any integrity violations.

I have even tried restarting the windows explorer from the task manager and also updated the drivers of my wifi. However, none of the abovementioned solutions that I found on the Microsoft website worked out for me.

Therefore, request you'll to kindly help me with the problem and provide a solution for the same.

I am having 16 GB RAM with AMD Ryzen 7 3750H processor and an NVIDIA GTX 1660ti MaxQ graphic card. My laptop is an ASUS Zephyrus GA502DU. My friend has purchased the same laptop a month after me and he has till date not encountered this problem.

As regards my internet connection and WIFI, there is no problem in the WIFI speed or range. I sit practically next to my WIFI and my download and upload speeds are at an average of 300 MBPS. I can only encounter the problem when I am on a Video conferencing app. And yes, the problem is with all Apps and I have reinstalled them several times.

Thank you

Regards

Alabhya Dhamija

    Good Day Alabhya,

My name is Carlo, I'm an Independent Advisor and community member like you.

I am also using Windows 10 pc. Let us work together to sort this out.

Here's the steps you can try.

-Click Start, type CMD and run it as administrator

-Copy and paste each of the command below and hit enter.

    netsh int ip reset

    netsh advfirewall reset

    netsh winsock reset

    ipconfig / flushdns

    ipconfig / release

    ipconfig / renew

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Once done restart your pc using Cleanboot.

This process will eliminate 3rd party application running in the background of your computer along with services that are not needed to run windows. If there's any conflicting 3rd party application that causes the issue on your computer, this process will stop it.

    1. Open the run box by pressing the Windows Key + R and type msconfig
    2. System Configuration Utility box will open and by default you are on general tab.
    3. On the General tab, click the selective startup and make sure that load system service and load startup items both have checked mark.
    4. Click on services tab
    5. Put a check mark on Hide All Microsoft Services
    6. Once Hide all Microsoft Services have checked mark on it, click on Disable All
    7. Click on the Startup Tab and click open task manager. This will open another window which contains all your startup applications on the administrator account.
    8. Disable all application that you're not using. You can simply just click on them and select disable.
    9. Click OK, Apply and close the configuration utility
    10. Restart your pc and let me know how it goes.

If issue persist, perform Repair Upgrade , this will re-install the Windows without affecting your files and apps, it will repair and replace any corrupted system files.

Step 1: Download Media Creation Tool from Microsoft.

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-downlo...

    Step 2: Run MediaCreationTool.exe.

Step 3: Choose "Upgrade this PC now".

Step 4: Select "Keep personal files and apps".

    Step 4: Let it install

I hope the information above helps. Please let me know how it goes.

Have a wonderful day ahead and stay safe.

    With Warm Regards,

    Carlo T.

    Hi Carlo,

Thanks for taking out time to help me out with this issue. The first method using CMD did not work out for me. The problem was still continuing. Thereafter, I tried the second method of re-installing windows using Media Creation Tool and that worked for me. My zoom call is not freezing at the moment and it is working flawlessly.

However, as a disclaimer, about a month ago, there was a major big windows update (if I remember correctly it was the 20H2 update), after which for almost a week, there was no problem with my Video conferencing and also a small bug with chrome which I have reported here (https://support.google.com/chrome/thread/92082716?hl=en) but then after almost a week, the same problem of freezing started again.

Thanks for the solution, I hope it is a long term solution, but request you to let me know in advance if any other solution can be performed if in case in the future such a problem re-occurs.

    Thanks a ton once again!

    Regards

    Alabhya Dhamija
