Hello! I recently tried to upgrade my Dell 5547 Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. The updater downloaded and the status said installing update. After waiting for good 6 hours for the process to end, I still have windows 8.1 and my laptop now consistently says "Update And Restart" instead of "Restart".

Is the windows 10 update downloaded? I'm confused.

Is it still in this condition?

If yes, press power button for 10 seconds and it will perform force shutdown and then start your PC with Windows 8.1 then look into log files located on Windows Setup Log Files and Event Logs | Microsoft Docs and look into log files and you could investigate what caused this issue.

Dell only supports Windows 10 64bit on your Model Number.

I don't know what you tried to install.

Use the Windows 10 media creation tool on the Software download page

Hello! I used the media creation tool from https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 to download and upgrade! Would that be a wrong way to upgrade?

I was under assumption that the media creation tool would automatically take x64!

Did you get the installer from official Microsoft website?

Are you using HDD or SSD as hard drive?

Hello! I used the official installer from the MS website itself. I have a HDD drive!
