Hello

Thanks in advance to anyone that might help me

Well long story short is 2 months ago I ve upgraded to 2 sticks of ram, after I've installed them my motherboard didn't run them at 3200mhz with xmp on so I tried to update the bios through the msi app but I got a black screen and no boot or post, I managed to flash it eventually but then I ve started to get bsod every minute, I then tried to reinstall windows, updates again the bios and again but nothing, somehow I managed to get it started and stabilize the system but I keep getting crashes at random times while watching YouTube or scrolling on Chrome, even when pc is idle at desktop I have seen bsod. I've tried the old sticks of ram which were working as expected, and the new ones on another pc and they also work at xmp 3200.mhz,

System was working fine before the whole thing so I'm confused as to what I can do

Specs are

M.2 western digital 500gb ssd

Msi tomahawk max b450

Ryzen 5 3600

Asus rx 5700

Ram corsair vengeance 3000mhz

Psu is a corsair 550w txm

Everything is stock with no overclock or boost

There is no 100% answer even for someone with my experience. Use close observation and try to rule other hardware out if you can (and that is not easy and fraught with possible mistakes). Check with MSI Support for diagnostics and possible RMA's.

    Here to help,

So it's most likely the motherboard? Good to know I have had people telling me it's the psu or gpu and it didn't make sense, if I upload the dump files can't we know for sure?

If it does not run on the new RAM then either you have a BIOS. chipset/chipset driver, or hardware issue. And since it is not likely to be the new RAM if a hardware issue then I would think the motherboard. So you really need to contact MSI Support.

I would also contact the RAM maker's support as there may be known issues which you need to know about.

Here are some test programs though it is very difficult to properly diagnose hardware issues with consumer-level software.

Please note that consumer-level troubleshooting software rarely specifies a particular piece of hardware so a lot of close observation is required.

PassMark Burnin Test - Free Trial - note the trial version will only run for 15 minutes and it really needs to be used for many hours. So if you use this you will need to faithfully and quickly restart it every 15 minutes.

Running OCCT for Home Use (Free) and the Stress Tests may help indicate a cause.

Running Stress Tests might help indicate a cause - use ALL of these.

Did you reset the BIOS? Not just update it?

So I am a little confused. Are you saying the system is OK now with the old RAM but not the new here?

"I've tried the old sticks of ram which were working as expected, and the new ones on another pc and they also work at xmp 3200.mhz,"

    If so:

What you are experiencing while trying to use the new RAM is not that unusual. Obviously, the MSI mobo has trouble stepping it up to 3200 XMP even though the specs for RAM on the B450 call for even higher speeds. So your recourse is to work with MSI Support and also check in their forums where others might be experiencing the same issue if it is a prevalent problem with that hardware.

If not: (it no longer runs well with either set of RAM)

If the PC is not properly functioning with even the old RAM then it sounds like you might have jarred something loose or caused some component to fail when you changed out the RAM.

Remove ALL power then reseat everything - cards, memory, cables (on both ends when possible), and the CPU and heatsink (with new compound) - remove and reseat - do not just snug.

If that does not help then you will need MSI Support for diagnostics and possible RMA.

    Here to help,

    Rob
