Hello:

The screen on my laptop has been flickering recently. It seems to be associated with the download and installation of Windows updates. I did check the BIOS and updated it and performed Dell Support Assist (DSA) With respect to DSA, the battery was tested and failed. According to the BIOS screen, it reads that the battery is normal.  Any suggestions / observations?

Thank you.

Given that the flickering stops following a download and installation of a

Windows update, is the latter causing the intermittent flickering of the screen?

    Hi Paul,

I did Test 2, but I had a problem with the resetting the computer to start normally after clean boot i.e. Select Services, clear the check box beside Hide all Microsoft services, and then select Enable all. They were enabled already. I then enabled all the items in the Task Manager and had to restart the computer manually. Is this OK? In the end, the screen still flickered during the test. Do you suggest I now test the battery?

    Thank you.

It means that the issue is not caused by non-Microsoft/3rd-party drivers.

Please try the 2 other tests.

    Hi interested,

I'm Paul, an Independent Advisor and a Windows 10 expert. I hope I can help you with your concern.

    Please try the following test.

    1. Start your PC in Safe Mode. If the issue didn't persist in Safe Mode it means the issue might be caused by the non-Microsoft driver.

    To start in Safe Mode.

    > Press the Windows logo key + R.

    > Type msconfig in the Open box and then select OK.

    > Select the Boot tab.

    > Under Boot options, click the Safe boot checkbox.

    > Apply and restart PC.

    1. Perform a Clean boot. If the issue didn't persist in Clean boot it means the issue might be caused by the non-Microsoft program or service.

    1. Start your PC without the battery. Remove the battery then plug in the AC cable and start the PC.

Let me know of the result.

    Thanks.
