Programs keep closing randomly

I'm having a problem where opening a program causes a bunch of other programs to close. For example, if I have my anti-virus open  and try to open steam, steam opens but the AV closes. When I check task manager, the AV is still open in the background, and when I reopen the AV steam closes.

Is there a fix for this?

Hello slippip, welcome to the Microsoft community, my name is Luiz Cruz, an independent consultant and I would be happy to help you.

What would be the antivirus you are using?

Initially I recommend that you disable or remove the antivirus.

If you have an antivirus installed or more than one, I suggest you uninstall it through the Control Panel under the Programs and Features icon or temporarily disable it through the antivirus settings itself.

Note: Many antiviruses have their own removal tool. Visit the Installed Software website for more information. Your system will not be unprotected since Windows has its own security system that automatically enables it as soon as you restart your computer.

After removing the antivirus check if the problem still occurs.

I hope I helped, even more!
