Computer Very Slow Task Manager Performance Disk 0 at 100% Microsoft Edge not responding

My computer at inopportune times will come to almost a complete halt or running very slow. I have Windows 10 and when it is running slow, I will look at the task manager, and the CPU and Disk under Processes Tab will be at levels lower than 80% or 60%. When I go to the performance tab, Disk 0 is running at 100%. Microsoft Edge, Excel, or other systems will not be responding. Sometimes when Microsoft Edge is sitting for a while with several tabs open it will build up to over 1,000 MB. Why am I running so slow? How do I fix?

What is scanning with AV? Install what system applications?

Ensure you are fully updated at "START, Settings, Update & Security, Windows Update, Check for Updates". Click "Learn More" at top right to see which cumulative is the latest for your version of Windows. To see which is the latest currently installed, click "START, Settings, System, About"...

I know the one just before that fixed a memory leak but I'm unsure it affected Edge. The latest cumulative includes all the fixes of the prior ones. Good luck.

Scanning with an AV can be helpful in addition to Pablo.

You can also install system maintenance applications.
