I'm John an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user like you. I'll be happy to assist you today. I understand you have a problem with notepad not working. When was the last time it worked properly? Are you referring to the standard Notepad in Windows or Windows Notepad from Microsoft Store? What is your current Windows version and edition? Press Start then click Settings(Gear icon), select System then About.
Kindly try the methods below
- Kindly try to uninstall Notepad++
Press Start then search Control Panel
Press Enter
Select Programs > Programs and Features
Find Notepad++ then right click the app then select Uninstall
Restart your PC
- Press Start then search Manage optional features
Check if Notepad is on the list, If not
Click Add a feature then select Notepad on the list
Click Install
Restart your PC
- Please try to run SFC and DISM to check for any system errors and corrupted files.

After that, Restart your PC
- Press Windows key+R to open Run
Type: notepad then hit Enter
Navigate to this location then check notepad on the list
C:\WINDOWS\system32
