Why does Desktop folder keep freezing?

When I try to use the Desktop folder or window, it keeps freezing.  It freeZes when I try to move the scroll bar.  It also freezes when I try to update filenames or delete files.  I have to click on the "X" inb the upper righthand to make it close.  Then, the Desktop is re-freshed.

I'm using BitDefender AV Plus.  But, I have used other AV products, including Windows Defender, and have had the same problem.  So, I don't see a problem with my AV.

I have also had the problem on two different computers: one, an old one; the other, a brand new one.  So, I don't see any conflict wioth hardware, drivers, or whatnot.

My computer is fully updated and patched.

Anyone else having the same problem?  Any solution?

Thanks.

I ran the command in Windows Powershell (Admin) and it worked.  For future reference . . .

Thank you . . . but, this did not work.  I was unable to run the command.  Error 740 was returned.

Please, see the screen capture below!

    Hi! mwidunn

I'm James, An Independent Advisor, and I will help you with this issue.

    When did the problem start?

I suggest you to fix the Windows corruption errors with DISM & SFC tools.

This will help you to repair the Windows 10 system files and check for any issues, follow these steps below:

    1. Open the Start menu, in the Search box type cmd or command prompt.
    2. Right-click on the command prompt and select Run as Administrator.
    3. When you Open it type the following command & press Enter:

    Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /Restorehealth

Be patient until DISM repairs component store. When the operation is completed, (you should be informed that the component store corruption was repaired), give this command and press Enter:

    sfc /scannow

    1. When SFC scan is completed, restart your computer.
    2. Try to update your system again.

If you need more help with this issue, just let me know and I will help you.
