Same thing happened to my dad today, February 10th, 2021. Same phone number and they had access to the computer. The guy was in a noisy call center and used the same words, “infection” and “firewall.” He didn’t ask for money. I hung up on him after realizing.
Scam???
I have been on my computer most of the day, email and jigsaw puzzles. youtube; around 5pm, I went to sign into my bank account and got this obnoxious notification/alert that something/someone had caused my account to be blocked and I should call this "Microsoft" number 844-309-2425. gentleman answered, told him what the issue was and the next thing I know is he is directing me to do this and that, then he had access into my computer, telling me I had an "infection" in my computer, not a virus, and I needed to a "firewall" for the cost of $599, then my problem would be fixed. Before sending the money, this person was in my computer setting up all this security, firewall, etc.
i will be at my bank first thing tomorrow to stop payment but all this "protection" - does it effect my computer? Someone else posted a similar situation so I am assuming this is a scam? And how the hell did this happen????
