Changing Windows license type

Anonymous

I bought a pc years ago and upgraded it from Windows 8.1 to 10. It is authentically licensed and works without any problem.

Recently I feel the need of to do hardware upgrade or even to change to a better computer. But only now I found out the Microsoft Windows license that came with the pc is an OEM (digital license). Which means I may not be able to do the upgrade or pc change.

So what I want to ask is: Could I just buy a retail license key from Microsoft? I don't have to have a new pack of Windows since mine is working well and up to date.

Or is there a way to convert my existing OEM Windows to retail version?

Thank you very much for your professional advices.

    Hi Kok

I am Dave, an Independent Advisor, I will help you with this . . .

If your your Windows 10 is an OEM licence or based on an OEM licence that will not have transfer rights to a new PC or Motherboard, because it is locked to the current motherboard

So, if you want to replace the motherboard or get a new PC, you would need to purchase a Windows 10 licence, and then use that product key to activate your Windows10 on the new hardware, you can purchase a new Windows 10licence form the page below, that licence will then be associated to your Microsoft Account, it will be a full retail licence and will have transfer rights in the future to a new motherboard or PC . . .
