I have an Asus N56JR laptop.

I have access into UEFI mode from setting -> trouble shoot -> UEFI.

In the first tab i can only change date & time.

Next tab i enter flash bios and the next screen showing my bios .. have a big padlock icon at top right hand corner.

Thus, i cannot update my Bios 204 to 206.

How do i unlock it? No password was set.

Thank you.

Hi George. I'm Greg, an eleven years awarded MVP, Volunteer Moderator, and Independent Advisor here to help you until this is resolved.

I am not seeing Version 206 on the downloads page for your model - are you working from a more refined search using your Serial or an extended model number? This is what I find: https://www.asus.com/me-en/Laptops/N56JR/HelpDe...

There are FAQ's and video for installing BIOS by two methods, EZ flash and WIndows. Windows is supposedly safest on Asus. See here:

    https://www.asus.com/me-en/support/FAQ/1008859

Read and watch everything related to this.

The padlock on Asus EZ flash BIOS screen may mean you don't need a BIOS update. They have a Chat popup on the Downloads and FAQ page so I'd ask there, or Asus Support to be sure. If you do have a new BIOS for your specific version of that model, and you confirm this, then I'd do it from Windows with their guidance. If you mess it up you have to ship it back to reimage the chip so I would not take any risks.

I hope this helps. Based on what you report back I can answer any questions and may have other steps to perform. If you'll wait to rate whether my post was helpful, I will keep working with you until it's resolved.
