Event 10016 causing audio issues
Hi Microsoft Community,
I have an issue regarding event 10016, whenever a video plays or my laptop starts up, the audio starts to spazz out for a few seconds and whenever I check Event Viewer, it states Event 10016 occurred at that time, (every single time). I've tried multiple solutions and videos to fix this problem but to no avail, I keep getting the same error over and over again. Are any of these solutions possible or any other methods to fix this?
- Resetting the entire computer?
- Get a new product?
- Find a way to reset my Microsoft account if it's connected to it?
Thank you for your time.

2020-12-28T10:34:48+00:00 Hi Paul,
I should have specified that I reset my laptop before asking the question, sorry on my part. I already tried the other 4 methods which didn't work for me but I do have a quick question regarding the method you just posted. For the iso and or bootable media, would I still have to make a copy for windows even though mine is preinstalled? If so, do I just directly skip to downloading Windows 10 setup?
Thank you for your time.

2020-12-27T22:52:38+00:00 I didn't know you just recently Reset the PC. I think System restore will not help.
Did you try the other solutions I mentioned above? If not yet, please try to do it.
I also suggest that you try to perform a Repair Upgrade.
Follow the guide provided by Andre Da Costa.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and keep me posted.

2020-12-27T15:16:21+00:00 Hi Paul,
I have a quick question regarding the 5th method as I recently reset my laptop due to past errors occurring, the restore point is put only during the problem as it persisted after the reset, if I were to continue with the restore, would I still get the issue again or will most of the drivers and settings be reset?
Thank you for your time.

2020-12-27T14:35:07+00:00 Hi KyleCA_667,
I'm Paul, an Independent Advisor and a Windows 10 expert. I hope I can help you with your concern.
The problem might be related to the audio driver.
Please try the following methods.
- Install the latest Windows updates.
- Update or Rollback the audio driver in the Device Manager.
Open Device Manager >> click sound, video and game controllers >> right- click your Audio driver >> click Update Driver.
If the system says that you have the latest driver installed. Try to Roll back the driver. Right-click your Audio driver >> click Properties >> click Driver tab >> click Roll back driver.
- Uninstall the currently installed driver then download and install the available driver from the PC manufacturer's website.
- Run Windows troubleshooter.
Open Settings >> Update and Security >. Troubleshoot >> click Playing Audio >> click Run the troubleshooter.
- Use System Restore to restore your Windows to the point before the issue persists.
Open Control Panel > System and Security > System > System Protection > System Restore then follow screen instructions.
I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and keep me posted.
