Windows update not working properly, Storage space falling; Troubleshooter says there is no problem

I decide to install the latest windows update (version 21H1) last month, and when I pressed the 'check for updates' button, it showed that my device is missing important security and quality fixes. But there was no 'update' or 'schedule update' button anywhere. I found that the update was paused. I plugged in my PC & un-paused the update. When I restarted the PC, it did show that it was installing updates, but since then, no updates have been installed, the update settings still show that my device is missing important security and quality fixes. Moreover, whenever I am about the close the PC, the options are 'Update and Shutdown' & 'Update and Restart', but the updates never get installed and now even the 'installing updates' blue screen doesn't appear (There is a weird 'please wait' blue screen). And to add up to it, my storage space has been falling very rapidly since a few weeks, although I have added only a few small files. I have tried with deleting all temp, deleting restore points, using disk cleanup, etc. and it did help, but the problem still persists and I have lost 13 GB of space in around 5 days! I ran the Windows Update Troubleshooter for the update trouble, but it didn't find any problem

    Hello Sohama,

I'm John an Independent Advisor and a Windows user like you. I'll be happy to assist you today. What is your current Windows version and edition? Press Start then click Settings(Gear icon), select System then About.

Please try the following methods below.

**Make sure Windows Update and Background Intelligent Transfer services are available and running.

Click Start, type services.msc in the Start Search text area, and then click services.msc in the programs list. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.

    Double-click Background Intelligent Transfer Service.

If the Startup status lists Stopped, click Start and then click OK. If the status is Running, right click then select Restart

    Double-click Windows Update.

If the Startup status lists Stopped, click Start and then click OK. If the status is Running, right click then select Restart

**Please try to run SFC and DISM to check for any system errors and corrupted files.

    After that, restart your computer

    **Reset Windows Update Components

If the issue still persists, Please try performing a Repair Install of Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade. It will definitely help in resolving update errors. Performing this can repair broken operating system files while your personal files, settings and installed applications will not be affected.

**Few things to check on the PC

    1. Back up your personal data and files to an external hard drive, USB thumb drive.
    2. Ensure you are signed in or have administrator rights to do a repair install
    3. Unplug all external peripherals except for the Mouse, Keyboard, and LAN cable before starting
    4. Disable or uninstall any 3rd party Anti-Virus program to prevent it from interfering with the upgrade

Download the media creation tool(Click Download tool now) and save it to your computer.

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-downlo...

Open the tool and select Upgrade this PC now.

Make sure to select Keep personal files and apps.

It might take some time to install Windows 10. Your computer will restart a few times, Make sure you don’t turn off your PC

Kindly let me know if this helps or if you have any further concerns.

    Kind regards,

    John DeV
