Windows 10 updates error; DirectToUpdate

I am trying to find some info about this error: Session "Microsoft.Windows.DirectToUpdate" failed to start with the following error: 0xC0000035. Google & bing show nothing related to this. I have processed all the usual suspects: SFC, WU reset, DSIM restore, Manual installs from WU catalog, In place upgrade from media & assistant(which process but fail to complete upon restart). No restore points to revert to.

win 10H Ver. 1909

Symptoms are:

WU displays "Your device is missing important security and quality fixes" with no error codes. Will still process security updates as normal but no feature or SSU.

Power icon does not display notification emblem, but has update & restart/shutdown listed as options.

No failed updates errors

System performs fine with no other errors in Eventlog.

I'm missing something and unsure where to look now. I know I can just fresh install, but really want to avoid that due to the programs installed.

It might be that something went wrong with the update files itself. Clearing the folder where all of the

update files are stored will force Windows Update to download fresh files.

Here how to clear update database cache, reset windows update components to the default setup.

1-Press Windows + R, type services.msc and ok to open windows services.

2-Scroll down and look for windows update service.

3-Right-click on it and select stop.

4-Also, do the same with BITs (Background Intelligent Transfer Service) and Superfetch (superfetch now called sysmain) right-click and select stop.

5-Now Go to the following location C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download.

6-Delete everything inside the download folder, but do not delete the folder itself.

To do so, press CTRL + A to select everything and then press Delete to remove the files.

Again open windows services and restart the services (windows update, BITS) which you previously stopped.

Restart Windows, and check for updates from settings, update & security.

    Hi WTFIGOH,

I'm Paul, an Independent Advisor. I hope I can help you with your concern.

I recommend that you perform a repair/in-place upgrade using the Windows 10 ISO file.

    Follow the instructions below.

    A. Downloading the Windows 10 ISO file.

    1. Download the tool (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=691209), and select Run. You need to be an administrator to run this tool.
    2. If you agree to the license terms, select Accept.
    3. On the What do you want to do? page, select Create installation media for another PC and then select Next.
    4. Select the language, edition, and architecture (64-bit or 32-bit) for Windows 10. (Select the same as the currently installed system on your PC)
    5. In "Select which media you want to use", Select ISO file then click Next.
    6. Select the download location then click Save.
    7. Windows 10 ISO file will be downloaded,

    B. Repair Upgrade installation.

    1. Right-click Windows 10 ISO file and click Mount.
    2. Open/run the Setup.exe.
    3. The preparation starts
    4. To get important updates, select Download and install updates. (Wait while checking for updates).
    5. Accept the terms of the license agreement
    6. The installation is ready to be applied, verify the information and ensure that "Keep personal files and applications is checked".
    7. Click on Install to start the upgrade.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and keep me posted.
