Desktop does not recognize laptop

Windows 10, automatic updates, Synology 2600 Wifi router.
The desktop is hard wired to the router, then to the modem. The laptop use wireless.
The desktop has a drive shared. When I try to map the drive the laptop does not recognize that the desktop exists. Same thing for desktop to laptop. Both have internet access.
The desktop drive was successfully shared with a previous router, a D-Link. The security on that router was not up to date so was replaced with the Synology, and now the problem not being able to share.
This seems like something silly I have done but I don't know what it is.

From the first link, used task manager and enabled Function Discovery Provider Host and Function Discovery Resource Publication for automatic on startup. Did the same on the laptop and restarted both.
    Fixed the problem.

    Thank you for your time.
