File | Folder rename bug?

Dear all,

Is this a bug or not?

Have you ever tried to rename a file/folder and get this annoying behavior from Windows 10? See description below:

Step 1: Select the file/folder

Step 2: Press F2 or right-click on it and select "rename". Windows 10 highlights the whole name in blue indicating you can change it.

Step 3: Using the arrows you go to the character you want to change. In my case, most of the time I want to change few characters, not all of them.

Step 4: When the cursor is there, you look at the keyboard to locate the "delete" or the "backspace" keys to delete the character; HOWEVER, during this time interval, Windows 10 changes the whole name to the blue mark indication again. This means any key you press you´ll be changing the entire name of the file/folder! Had you typed a key, you're done. You have hit "Esc" and...

Step 5: GO TO Step 1 again

Does this happen to any of you?

Thanks!

I have seen this behaviour in Windows over multiple PCs so I don't think cleaning the system will help. It is VERY ANNOYING. Example: I want to change the file name "TestFile.txt" to "TestFile1.txt". I click on the filename - positioning the cursor after the 'e' - the field is now not highlighted and shows the cursor in the right position after the 'e'. But, after about half a second, just as I am about to type '1' the field re-highlights itself (in blue) so that when I type '1' the filename is changed to "1.txt". As I say, very annoying and happens frequently but I have never seen someone else reporting this until now.

Hello, my name is Anderson Souza, I am an Independent Advisor and I hope I can help you with your problem today.

This shouldn't be the behavior. You should be able to navigate normally using keyboard arrow keys, use delete and backspace when editing a folder or file name.

Could you try activating a Windows Clean Boot to see if this problem recurs? A clean boot is performed to start Windows using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This helps to eliminate software conflicts that occur when you install a program or an update or when you run a program on Windows 10. You can also resolve or determine which conflict is causing the problem by performing a clean boot.

Please check the necessary procedures to do a clean boot on Windows at the link below:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

If the problem does not occur at Clean Boot, the article itself indicates how to identify the problem.
