Computer crashing, black screen, probably related to AMD master driver

I have been having an issue for a few months where my computer (or possibly just GPU) will crash. The crash consists of a black screen with some audio that will eventually stop. The fans of my GPU will run at maximum speed, and the computer will be completely unresponsive, forcing me to turn it off using the power button.

The crash (so far) only occurs when running certain GPU intensive programs and games, such as Warframe, Vermintide 2, and Furmark. Interestingly, the crash has never occurred when using some other bench-marking software, such as Unigine Heaven, 3Dmark Firestrike, and prime95. To try to fix this issue, I have tried reinstalling drivers, running the pc in safe mode, and rolling back to earlier drivers.

I initially thought that this was a hardware issue with my GPU, however the investigation of Warframe support has lead to the following conclusion based on errors in the even viewer:

'Looks like the same series of errors each time, each leading the AMD Master Driver failing, which because of the black screen and the PC "stopping"'

They recommended that I also seek help here, since apparently people in these forums are much better at reading event errors than they are.

If someone could please try to find a solution that prevents these crashes, I would be very grateful.

    Hi Jason,

Thank you for the response. I have monitored the temperature of the AMD GPU right up to when the crash occurred, and the temperature remained stable at about 75 degrees Celsius, so I do not think it is an issue with overheating.

You also mentioned insufficient voltage. I assume that my power supply would have only recently become damaged if this were the case, as the issue that I am having only started around February this year. How can I check if it has indeed become damaged?

    Thanks,

    LordM00

    Hi LordM00,

Thanks for using Microsoft products and posting in the community, I'm glad to offer help.

According to your description, this problem may be caused by overheating of AMD's graphics card, or it may be caused by insufficient voltage. Please provide sufficient cooling for the graphics card or lower the ambient temperature. If the adjustment allows, your graphics card clock speed may be reduced by 10%, and the probability of such failures will be much less.

    Best Regards,

    Jason
