I have been using a laptop(Dell Inspiron 7306 2n1) for a few months now but suddenly the touch screen suddenly stopped working. I went to device manager and it showed up with a code 45 error. So I searched up on the web on what to do and it told me to uninstall the driver then restart your laptop and after that scan for changes in hardware and drivers to reinstall the driver. However, the touchscreen didn't reinstall and now is completely missing , what do I do?

    Hi KaneshkaNadepoor,

Just to clarify, have you also tried to perform the repair install?

You may also look into the Windows 10 recovery options (system restore or reset). Please see this article for details: https://support.microsoft.com/help/12415/window...

Note: Ensure to have a backup of your files

Hoping for your feedback. Thank you.

Unfortunately it didn't, as when I uninstalled it, the touchscreen driver got removed and I can't seem to find it despite restarting my laptop multiple time. I want to install it back.

    Hi KaneshkaNadepoor,

Apologies for that, kindly check if you'll be able to install the "HID-compliant touch screen" instead of "HID Compliant Mouse" under Device Manager > Human Interface Devices.

If that didn't work, kindly proceed with performing the repair install of your Windows.

You may also perform the additional methods on this article as well: https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-sg/000132...

Please let me know how it goes. Thank you.

Good day! I'm Raniel, an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user like you.

Kindly double-check if your machine doesn't have any pending security patches: Go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Check for Updates. Also ensure that the necessary drivers for your machine are properly updated by getting them from the manufacturer's website. You may refer to this guide:

    https://support.microsoft.com/help/4028443/wind...

Once done, perform a clean boot and see if you'll encounter the issue: https://support.microsoft.com/help/929135/how-t...

Another option is to install the generic driver for the touchpad:

    1. Open the Device Manager
    2. Right-click on your touchpad driver and select the Update driver software
    3. Select the option Browse my computer for driver software > Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.
    4. Select "HID Compliant Mouse" and follow the instructions to install it.
    5. Perform a reboot and check again.

However, if the issue still persist, kindly perform a repair install of your Windows.

    1. Download the media creation tool here: https://www.microsoft.com/software-download/win... (click on "Download tool now") and wait for the download to finish
    2. Temporarily disable your firewall/antivirus, then open the tool and select the option "Upgrade this PC now".
    3. Wait until your machine goes to the process of repair install. There should be no worries in performing it since you will select the option to keep your files during the process.

I hope this helps. Good luck!
