specifying a file when uploading from a camera

I have spent several hours trying to resolve what is probably a simple question but haven't found the answer. My x64 based pc runs Win10 version 109041. Recently I discontinued using my old ACDSee picture handling software and started to use the Photos app. I have disabled One Drive so it doesn't handle my pictures; they're on my hard disk. I'm trying to upload photos from my camera to my pc and want to store them in an identifiable folder in my hard drive Pictures file. I need a way of specifying what folder they should be stored in but can't find a way to do that, or at least a way of knowing where they were stored. When I perform the upload the message I get is that they have been stored in "Pictures" which is the category and not a folder, and it requires the better part of a half hour to go through the many Pictures folders to find them. How can I resolve this problem?

Hi SJ. I'm Greg, an Independent Advisor.

Photos app should import them into a folder by Date, so you can go into User Pictures folder to move them wherever you want them.

If you don't want them placed there then manually import them one of these ways:

Make sure Photos app has all your Source folders, especially C:\Users\YourName\Pictures listed.

There are good guides to Photos app here:

Feel free to ask any questions. Based on the results you post back I may have other suggestions if necessary.

Greg, I'm not sure what happened, why I received a second copy of your reply. I had submitted a response to you, along with a rating, but it was evident that there was some sort of a processing error as it left my pc. I had thanked you for a lot of good information, particularly for the link to Andre Da Costa's guide which was a great help. It puzzles me that I didn't encounter that one during my earlier searches.

    Thank you again!

What OS build are you on? Hit the Windows key, type winver, hit Enter.
    Or Windows key+r, winver, OK
