Hi Ross,

Upgrade to Microsoft Edge to take advantage of the latest features, security updates, and technical support.
Windows 10 on a HP Laptop 15-da0xxx
Windows Update crashed - it has not worked since. System files were corrupted and hardly anything works.
Troubleshooter gets me to restart but nothing changes.
There is a large number of updates. Most download and have status of 'pending install.' Several always crash and retry does not change anything.
Deleting downloaded update files did not change anything. The same updates end up with 'pending install' or fail to correctly download and install.
Downloaded updates from Windows Update Catalog but KB updates did not install. Cab files did not install.
Trying to reset Windows via Recovery does not work. Part way through an error message appears stating that unable to finish the reset.
SFC finds errors but unable to fix them.
DISM stops with an error "The WOF driver encountered a corruption in the compressed file's Resource Table."
Unable to reload Windows from the downloaded iso file as the corrupted Windows does not recognise the DVD burner to create the disk. Running resets from USB fail with an error message that unable to complete. Attempts to install Windows from online source also fail.

When trying to mount the iso file get error message "Sorry, there was a problem mounting the file"
Hi Ross,
What happens when you try to mount the ISO?
Hi Dave - thanks for responding
Hi Ross,
I am Dave, I will help you with this.
1
Click your Start Button, type winver and hit Enter
On the resulting dialog, what version No. and Bild No. of Windows 10 are you running?
2
You have performed a lot of troubleshooting, you indicate you have the Windows 10 ISO, have you tried opening the ISO file, rather than creating a DVD and run a Repair Upgrade from that, rather than re-installing Windows 10?
