Cannot enable Microsoft Defender or the Security Center

Hello,

I had an IT expert configure and optimize my computer a couple of days ago.

I have now realized that one of his actions was to disable multiple services through "services.mcs".

This he said was for faster startup and performance. However, I really wish to use Windows defender as my main malware protection service.

Therefore I went to the services tab and tried to enable the services that I wanted online especially for this instance the "Microsoft Defender Antivirus Service, but got this message popped up in a new window;

" Access denied"

The Security Center service is also not possible to alter since the option to enable the service is greyed out.

I don't want to reset to factory settings, since my computer has been running exceptionally since the session. The session cost me 130$.

I appreciate any help. Thank you.

    Hi AndreasSæbø, as the Security Center is grayed out then you can check out the link below for reference and follow the steps provided and see how it goes.

    That was my intention, but by doing so, I am basically throwing 130$ out the window. We did a lot of different procedures on my computer. Resetting this will sadly put everything back to factory settings. I was hoping someone knew a fix to enable the security features again. I was monitoring everything during the session, and this is my only concern.

    He did not. I am now without anti-virus software, but the windows firewall is still running.

    Good day AndreasSæbø! I am glad to be able to provide assistance to you today. I understand that you are unable to enable Windows Defender/Windows Security. Just to check, did the technician who came to check on your PC installed another anti-virus? You can check the programs and press Windows key + I and click on Apps and look for if there is any other anti-virus that is installed.

    Regards,

    Paul R.
