Windows 11 HDMI audio format problem

Using Nvidia GPU over HDMI to an AVR, on W10 it was possible to right click the taskbar audio icon to easily switch between stereo, 5.1, 7.1 and Atmos - this very useful shortcut has been removed

Also if I go to sound output <device> on the new W11 settings panel I can see Spacial Sound -> Type which has the options Stereo, 5.1, 7.1, and Atmos but if I select 5.1 it immediately just goes back to Stereo

If Ive selected Atmos for certain games then I can only switch back to 5.1 by opening the old-style Sound panel, selecting the audio device , and choosing the speaker format from there.

Thanks for replying. I'm using the latest Nvidia driver - which supports W11 - but the audio driver part of that hasnt been updated quite so recently.

The dropping of the right click shortcut method to change audio format isnt a driver issue - this was added in W10 and now removed

The fact that I can change audio format in the old style panel but not the new settings app (both after many clicks though) is worth feeding back

I'll try another route to get feedback to Microsoft

    Hi,

My name is Igor, I have 12 Microsoft MVP awards. It's a pleasure for me to help others and I'll do all my best to help you. I'm sorry you have a problems.

Seems sound drivers are not fully compatible with Windows 11. Please look (or wait) for updated drivers. Ask PC manufacturer about Windows 11 support.
