Windows 11 Internet connection problems

After messing around with a software called Portal, which is a plugin for music producers, I decided I don't find it useful and removed it from my system. Somehow, its uninstaller removed not only the software itself, but the whole folder it has been inside. Later on, I found out that my internet did not function well. I got an ERR_CONNECTION_FAILED message in all of my browsers and I could not load some apps at all.

I called my internet provider, and turns out that the connection is perfectly fine from their side. The issue had something to do with my OS. So I decided to restore the system back to morning time, before I installed and uninstalled Portal. Ah! My missing folder has immediately appeared and the internet connection issues have fully been solved.

Was the uninstaller of this software buggy and removed essential files?

Maybe it is the software that is currently unsupported by Windows 11? If so, can such a thing cause such severe internet issues?

I suspect it may even be a Windows 11 bug.

I am scared that maybe now my system is left broken. Is there anything I can do to make sure that my system & internet are both healthy now, after all of this mess?

Thank you, stay safe!

Hi, I'm Mario, and I'd be happy to help with your issue.

We are sorry about what happened.

Your reported issue can have a number of causes. When you uninstalled it, it could be sharing some system file (.dll) or other file that caused the failure, that when reinstalled it was restored and returned to normality.

One test you could have done is, at the moment that caused the failure, before reinstalling the program, to have started the system clean, to see if the problem would continue.

I will leave here the step-by-step for you to perform in case it happens again with some other plugin/program/software, ok?

    Initialization clean:

    1. Press the Windows + R keys, type MSConfig and click Ok.
    2. On the Services tab, click Hide Microsoft Services.
    3. Click Disable All.
    4. On the Program Startup tab, click Open Task Manager.
    5. Disable all applications, one at a time.
    6. Apply the changes and restart the equipment.

Note: This process will not affect the operation of your applications, they will just not start with the operating system. Later, you can activate them again.

I am at your disposal in case you have any questions, ok?

    Kind Regards,

    Mario B.

Thank you so much for helping. I highly appreciate your time and for sure would try that solution in case something like similar happens in the future.

One thing I still don't fully understand is - the uninstaller was meant to simply remove the software "Portal" from my computer. How did it ruin my internet connection, and Does it have something to do with Windows 11's compatibility?

    Thanks, stay safe!

Thank you! I actually got rid of this VST. Simply restored the OS to right before the installation.

About the internet, what happened there? This is a plugin for music production, how could I ruin my internet after installing + uninstalling it? Do you have any guess?

I really don't have to be assertive because it depends on the development of this program. It can share development libraries with other programs or O.S. So you would really have to perform a more in-depth diagnosis to know for sure what happened.

I hope I have helped you.

    Have a nice day!

Possibly a Portal compatibility problem as Windows 11 isn't officially supported by it at this time, but it shouldn't delete a whole folder necessary to the system regardless of what Mario suggests, and that would be a Portal related problem if it did. It should know which files it touched/uses/installs/etc and what exactly needs to be done on uninstall and deal with it correctly.

That said, the Portal devs would likely tell you that Windows 11 isn't officially supported and shouldn't be used, though regardless of what they say, it doesn't mean it won't work great or perfect. You just take on the support yourself really :-)

You could always keep it installed and when its officially compatible with Windows 11, install that version and try uninstalling it then. But, you could do one of any bunch of things to get rid of it now.
