Health check says my i7 7700HQ processor is not compatible with windows 11. When I checked the specs it seemed to me it met or exceeded all requirements. Can someone tell me what I missed that makes it not compatible?

It's simple: you did not check the list of processors approved for Windows 11. You are looking at the list for Windows 10.

Having said that, your 7th generation Intel Core i7 should work perfectly well with Windows 11, as it meets all of the performance and hardware security requirements. Only Microsoft knows why it's not approved, and they are not divulging any useful information on this front.

You can still install Windows 11. The question being, however, whether you'll receive the regular security and feature updates. To install, just do a search on how to install windows 11 on unapproved PCs. Use the Microsoft links for that.

    Hi,

The only thing that makes it not compatible is Microsoft's decision to make it so..

Certain Intel CPUs had an issue with something like the "MicroCode" on the actual chip that could enable the machine to be compromised.. Ever since Microsoft has been releasing Security Updates to patch this..

This is just a guess, but it may be that the 8th Generation CPUs are the first to have this internal issue corrected..

Your machine is physically capable of running Windows 11.. I have a much older machine that I am typing this on now..

Windows 11 is very little different than Windows 10 other than the fact that Microsoft has decided to require machines to have certain security features.. But it only checks for this during the installation or upgrade process.. If this check is bypassed Windows 11 will install\upgrade as easily as Windows 10.. Windows 11 is actually just a newer build of Windows 10 anyway..

A search for Windows 11 Compatibility Check Bypass might be informative..

    Hi AnyoneVB-

I'm Kevin B. Windows user like you. I do apologize for the inconvenience, let me help you sort things out.

Your processor is not on the list of processors that supports Windows 11.

You may check the list here:

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardwa...

Microsoft usually offers the upgrade to those devices Microsoft believes are the most likely to successfully install the upgrade. The compatibility checker will determine if the computer is compatible with Windows 11 and will notify its users if the computer passes the hardware requirements. If the computer passes the hardware requirements, windows updates will offer the upgrade in stages until such time that device is ready to install the upgrade.

You may reach out your manufacturers support and see if you can upgrade your processor that supports Windows 11.

Also, it is advisable to use / stay to Windows 10 since its still supported until 2025.

Please do let me know if you do have a questions. Hope this will help and have a blessed day!

    Thanks,

    Kevin B.

    Hi AnyoneVB,

According to the minimum Windows 11 system requirements you Must have a Intel 8th Generation of processors in order to run Windows 11 fully. They did put a few 7th gen processors on the list, However Not the Intel i7 7700HQ. For a list of Supported Intel Processors Please see the link below for more detail.
