Remote Desktop Account Issues

Hi.

I've just carried out a reset of my Surface Pro running Windows 10 Pro, and am trying to use RDP from my Mac.

I set up the Surface Pro with an offline account as I want a more realistic account name, not just the first 5 letters of my email address, and this works really well - until I log in to my Microsoft account on the Surface Pro.

When I do this, I get tan error from RDP indicating "The User Account Did Not Work" with the (un)helpful advice "The user account used to connect to [machine name] (remotePC) did not work. Try again."

I've tried several times to do this and it all goes well until I log into my Microsoft account. It seems to have changed the offline account name to my real, full name (from my Microsoft account details), but changing the login details to that and using the original password doesn't help. I still get the same error.

Surely I must be able to use Remote Desktop to access my Surface Pro after logging in with my Microsoft account?

Am I missing something, or is it just the way it is?

Thank you.

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I understand that you have a query regarding using RDP.

However, we do have a dedicated forum for issues/queries related to remote computers let me point you in the right direction. I would suggest you to post your query in Windows on Q&A, where we have support professionals to address your query.

OK, so a bit of an update...

It seems I have to switch from my Microsoft account to the offline account, and then I can remote in to the Surface Pro.

Will I need to set up a new PC in Remote Desktop for the Microsoft account?

    Thanks
