Hello,

I have a strange problem from the past 1 week. In my PC running with Windows 11 pro, when I press any keys in keyboard it register multiple characters. For example, if I press A, it gives AA or AAA. Same for all characters and keys including arrow and other keys. Any keys if I press it do multiple action, if I press page down button one time, 2 or 3 pages are scrolling. Like wise, all keys do multiple actions. Then I have done below troubleshoots and nothing make it works.

  1. I have removed the keyboard driver and installed again. But same problem exists.
  2. I plug the keyboard in 4 different USB ports and none helped. Same problem exists on all USB ports.
  3. If I take this keyboard and plug it to another PC then it works fine. So no problem with the keyboard hardware.
  4. I thought it may be a driver or OS issue and boot the PC to BIOS. There also same issue exist if I press arrow key one time, then 2 or 3 tabs are moving in BIOS screen.

So please help me, how to figure out what causes this problem and how to fix this. Thanks in advance.

Good Day MYJAMAL,

I apppreciate your time getting back to this thread, if the OS does not work in BIOS , it can be a hardware issue, you can bring your device to the nearest local tech and have them check the hardware.

Have a wonderful day ahead and stay safe.

Sincerely,

Carlo T.

    Solved:

Finally the problem has been solved. Steps I have done to find it out.

    1. I have taken the PC to the nearest hardware repair shop. There my PC keyboard is working perfectly without any malfunction.
    2. Then I finally identified that this may be due to some electrical fault.
    3. So I shifted my PC to another room and there it is working perfectly without any keyboard issue.
    4. Then the final culprit is the "Extension cord" power adapter which I used for the PC for multiple plug point support.
    5. I replaced another Extension cord and my keyboard works perfectly without any problems.

So the whole problem is due to malfunction of Extension Cord which does not supply the power properly.

Thanks for all who helped me to troubleshoot the problem.

Thanks for your reply. I have tried all the points which was mentioned in your reply. But nothing works out. Even I have created a MS-DOS bootable USB and boot the PC in pure DOS mode. There also If I type any key, multiple characters are coming. So it is not related to any malware or virus problem. So please help me out.

Hello , sorry about your problems. My name is Marco and I will do my best to help you.

There may be several causes for this problem.

You can check if it is a malicious file that is in your pc that could cause this.

To make sure it's not, please scan with the 2 free programs below.

    AdwCleaner to clean browser: https://www.malwarebytes.com/adwcleaner/

    Malwarebytes to clean pc: https://malwarebytes.com/

Another possible cause could be a software that you have installed before this problem occurs.

Check your software list to see if there is one that might be involved.

You can then uninstall it in "Add and remove programs".

To do this, press Windows + R keys and type: appwiz.cpl

If you don't know which program could be the cause, you can do a clean boot of Windows. (A Windows startup with the minimum of applications running in the background)

Just follow all steps on this link: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/how-t...

As step 5 will tell you

«If your problem does not occur while the computer is in a clean boot environment, then you can determine which startup application or service is causing the problem by systematically turning them on or off and restarting the computer. While turning on a single service or startup item and rebooting each time will eventually find the problematic service or application, the most efficient way to do this is to test half of them at a time, thus eliminating half of the items as the potential cause with each reboot of the computer. You can then repeat this process until you've isolated the problem. »
