Hi there!

Im getting crazy at one thing that i suposed to be very easy, but i cant find the answer.

I have a folder with 400+ excel files / words, and some of them has password and some does not.

I want to quickly identify which ones have and which one doesnt. so my question is: Is there a way i can add a column into a folder, that identify which files its password protected and which isnt?

Looked up in google and in this forum and couldnt find anything.

thanks in advance!

I THINK When you set a password it enables the Read Only file attrib. So what I suggest is running command prompt (Admin) getting it to the folder with the Excel/word/other Microsoft OneDrive/Office365 as default open app (Now Microsoft365) files (In cmd (Admin)) then (in the command line) type THE EXACT FOLLOWING /Attrib -h -r -s and this should remove the Read Only Attrib which will remove the Password on all the files that have one. (This will only work IF what I said I THINK happens is what actually happens when you set a password on these types of files.)

Thanks for your input! didin'r work for me.

My problem is not the password. What i need to know is which files in a folder doesnt have password so i could put those in another place... my problem is that i have lots of files and a column that says if it has password or not it would be my salvation hehe... will look around for some software or explorer that does this.

    thanks!

Hi Anderson! thanks for your assistance!

Ok with the word thingy, will try, but i have more excels than words files...

On the other hand, dont you know a program that does this?

If not, i think that i wont have more choice to get a VBA code to read every file and get this done.

thanks once again, and have a great day ahead!

Hi, my name is Anderson Souza, I hope I can help you with your issue.

Unfortunately, File Explorer doesn't have the feature you want. What I do for Word documents is turn on the column "Word Count" the password-protected documents don't have the number of words in this column, however, this doesn't work for Excel files.
