    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I understand that you are facing issues with mouse pointer

In order to get clarity and to assist you accordingly, please reply with the answers to the questions below:

    • What is the make and model number of your laptop?
    • When does the mouse cursor flicker exactly?

Meanwhile, I would suggest you to follow the steps mentioned below and check if the issue persists:

    Method 1: Restart windows explorer

    1. Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc)
    2. Under list of apps, right click on Windows Explorer and select End task
    3. Under File tab on top, select Run new task and type explorer.exe and click on OK

    Method 2: Rollback/ Reinstall drivers

    1. Search and open Device Manager from start menu
    2. Expand Display Adapters and Mice and other pointing devices one by one
    3. Right click on their driver and select Roll Back Driver if present
    4. You could also click on Uninstall Device
    5. Restart the computer for drivers to reinstall automatically

    Method 3: Clean boot

Performing a clean boot will start the computer with minimal set of drivers and programs, to determine whether a background program is causing the issue. Some of the Startup programs will not load after performing a clean boot on the computer. However, that functionality will return when you reset the computer to start normally after finishing the troubleshooting.

How to perform a clean boot in Windows (microsoft.com)

Note: This article is for Windows 10, holds good for Windows 11

I would also suggest you to install the latest graphics and mouse drivers from manufacturer’s website if the issue persists

Let us know how it goes, we will be glad to help you further

    hello Vineet Kumar

    thank you for your reply.

the laptop is a HP . The model of the laptop is 17-BY0000NA

the issue with the mouse cursor flickering happens when windows 11 gas logged in. it is idle with NO programs launched. it continues to happen whenever i am using the laptop. it doesn't go away. very distracting on the eyes.

i will try the method 1 then 2 all the way to a clean boot method 3. will let you know if it changes.

NOTE: the laptop meets all the windows 11 requirements.

    regards,

    Hello again

It looks like method #2 sorted the issue. i uninstalled the mouse and video graphics. i then rebooted the computer. then windows loaded basic drivers. went to HP's site to download the amd driver. through their assistant program it installed the intel driver. rebooted. seen that the elan touch pad was in. up to now 2 days on and it seems the flickering has stopped. thanks for your help

    regards
