Sleep mode issues

So I don't know what is causing this particular issue, and am not really finding any good answers for it when I search.

I was forced to do a clean install of Windows when my previous boot drive had a critical failure and basically bricked. So I bought a brand new drive (Samsung 980 Pro) and installed a clean version of Windows 10 Pro from a brand new UBS drive bought at the same time. But I have had unending issues since then with windows. I get random BSOD's, mostly for system issues....win32kfull.sys, irql not less or equal, or generic system page faults just randomly pop up. But the biggest issue I have is with sleep mode.

I put my PC into sleep mode a few times a day, but not once since I reinstalled things has it ever come out of sleep and didn't either crash immediately, or just not do anything at all. Sometimes the PC will wake up for a second and then immediately go BSOD on me, or more often than not the PC will wake up, but I get no video at all which then forces me to do a hard reboot of my PC.

I'm kind of at wits end trying to figure out what is causing this issue because I have NEVER had anything like this happen before after a fresh Windows install. Ever.

Hi Todd. I'm Greg, 10 years awarded Windows MVP, specializing in Installation, Performance, Troubleshooting and Activation, here to help you.

What I do for easier Sleep troubleshooting is set Power Plan timeouts to 1 minute for Display and Sleep, then 2 minutes for Hibernate. After each step in the tutorials above, restart PC and sit back to observe if the timeouts work. If so set them back to Plan defaults:

    1. Try these fixes for Windows won't wake from sleep:

    1. The Display driver is so important here that merely updating it is sometimes not enough. It controls everything about Suspend, Sleep and Hibernate. So let's try everything possible to get it working correctly:

First make sure you have updated the Display driver from the PC or Display adapter maker's Support Downloads web page for your exact model number, HP Serial Number or Dell Service Tag - from the sticker on the PC.

While there check also for newer chipset, BIOS/UEFI firmware (very important), network, sound, USB3 and other drivers, comparing to the ones presently installed in Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start Menu.

If this doesn't give you the latest or ideal driver for what you need, compare it to the driver offered by the Intel driver update Utility here:

    http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/...

or the Nvidia Update utility here: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Scan.aspx?lang=e...

or the AMD autodect utility here: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/P...

For Display issues one fix that is working is to Roll back or Uninstall the Driver on the Display Device > Driver tab, restart PC to reinstall driver.

You can also try older drivers in Device Manager > Display device > Driver tab > Update Driver > Browse > Let Me Pick.

Then you will know you've tried everything in addition to Windows Update drivers.

Adjust the screen resolution until it fits and looks best at Settings > System > Display.

    1. If Sleep cannot be fixed for now and Hibernate will work then I'd use it because it's an even better power saver, saves your work to Hiberfile, powers off PC completely, loads the hiberfile when you power back on so it starts faster.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and keep me posted. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.
