User file on wrong drive

I remember 3-4 years ago I tried to mess around where default downloads are saved and I think messed with the user file. So when I go to my C: drive and go to C: users, I dont see a file with my name on it, instead all I see are the files named "18083", "default" and "public". And when I check my D: drive there's a folder called "New Folder" and when I open the file, there I see a file with my name on it, and when I open it, it has the file called "18083", which is the file I just mentioned to be in my C: drive. This also relates to another problem I have about updating my pc and I think this is why I cant update my pc. I want to know if this is a misunderstanding or if there's a fix to it. Please help. Thank you.

Hey sorry for late response, on my desktop right now when I go to properties and check some files and games and stuff some are in D: and C: and not just one specific location I dont know if thats weird but there's that.

If you mean the documents and pictures folder under the This Pc section, all the file locations are set in C:

And to answer your last question, as a kid I didn't know when you downloaded things you could chose which drive to download it in so I think I moved my user to D: (because D: was the drive that had more storage) and that messed everything up, now I cant update, factory reset or even use some commands in command prompt.

What is the location of your files right now? On the Desktop, right click a few files to check Properties, what is the file Location path shown?

Then from File Explorer open your Documents and Pictures folders and sample files from each of those folders to check the Properties for the Location Path. That should settle where they are and then we can proceed if it needs to be moved back, which can be very tricky with the User Profile folder. Or did you want your User profile to be on D, for space reasons?

    Hello, Thanks for the response

I dont quite remember if I actually moved my user profile but that seems to be the case. My user account name is "Jayden" not 18083, 18083 is just a file thats in the D:\New folder file inside "Jayden" ( I dont know what its purpose is or why its called 18083, I also dont know why its in a file called "New folder"). On the other hand, the 18083 file in my C:\Users file has all the document, picture, desktop files you mentioned, but I dont know why its called 18083 and not Jayden, which is in the D:\New Folder drive. So basically when I go into C:\Users its missing the "Jayden" file that should be there instead the 18083 file is there, while the "Jayden" file is in the "New folder" file. Its very confusing but thats how I can explain it to the best of my ability.

Hi Jayden. I'm Greg, 10 years awarded Windows MVP, here to help you.

Did you move your User Profile? What is your User account name?

If it's 18083 then open that account in C:\Users and see if your User folders (Documents, Pictures, Downloads, Desktop, etc) are inside and have the right files, including the ones presently on your desktop.

If not then open the folder on D and check the same thing to see if they're there.

Check also several files on the Desktop, right click to open Properties to check the file path is the default C:\Users\Your User Folder.

Based on the answers you post back I will have other suggestions.

Impossible to know what you did when as you said "messed about"

Ensure any data is backed up to external then try a win repair and if that doesn't help a PC re-set
