Tried all the usual remedies but none worked then as a last resort changed the CMOS battery on the motherboard and all came good. Has anyone else tried this and got good results or was it a fluke?

Hi

Welcome to Microsoft community.

I'm glad to help you.

I checked your error message for you. It indeed may be related to the motherboard, It is also possible that the system motherboard may have issues, such as a scratched trace, or a defective component. A failing power supply can also cause issues.

Your current scheme is effective for you. After clearing the cmos, you can generally fix most of the regular errors reported by the motherboard and the system.

If problems occur again in the future, you can consult the motherboard manufacturer for better help.

Best regards
