Error Code 80072EFE

Question

I am having trouble upgrading my laptop msi gl72 6qe intel i7 chip to the latest windows updates. It is on Windows 7 Professional and I am trying to upgrade to W10 or maybe W11.

I have already tried this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976982 for Windows 7. I get an error at step 2 such as file is not found and the next one is access denied.

I also did sfc /scannow with command prompt. It repaired something and asked me to restart but nothing changed

I have also tried to System Recovery Options with System Restore. None seems to be working.

When I tried to install an app it says I do not have .NET Framework 4.0 - I tried to install them as well but they failed

When I tried the Windows 10 Installer, it also gives me an error.

The MCT is not supposed to fail to run.

Your link applies to win 8.1 and you have win7. Support for win 7 ended Jan 2020 and as of that date no updates of any type.

Before trying win10 see MSI support site for your model to see if win 10 is supported, as it may not be.
