Can Not open A Software......

Hello - it's me again. I have a software that I purchased that I am trying to open on my laptop. Everytime I try to open it I get an error message.

When I contact the company, they tell me that I have to access the "Controlled Folder Access" file. But I can't seem to do that either. This file/folder does not show up on my system, and when I run a search for it, I get another error message.

Now here is the odd thing. I have no IT administrator (other than me), this is NOT a business, this IS my own personal computer, and I have NO helpdesk - other than you fine people in the community.

So, how do I access this file/folder on my laptop so that I can follow the steps that the company needs me to follow, so that I can get this software up and running?

Again, thank you so much for your time and help.

Yes, I do have a third party antivirus program - Comodo. However, I disabled and closed this program while trying to access "Controlled Folder Access." I still received the error message above.

Now, on a different note, for those of us who are having the same issue; I right clicked the icon and then clicked on <Run As Administrator>. The software opened right up and is useable.

I'm not sure if I need to do anything else, but I'll let you confer on that.

Thank you for your time and help. It sure is great knowing that you all are out there for us.

    Hi WishBoy14,

I am Dave, I will help you with this.

Click your Start Button, type regedit and hit Enter to open the Registry Editor.

Click View and make sure 'Address Bar' is turned on.

Paste this into the Address Bar at the top and hit Enter.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Policy Manager

Please provide a screenshot of that Registry Editor window

    Hi WishBoy14,

    1

Do you have a 3rd party anti-virus installed on your PC.

    2

If you do not have a 3rd party anti-virus installed.

Click your Start Button, then just type cmd

On the resulting list, right click Command Prompt and select 'run as Administrator'

Paste each of these commands into Command one at a time and press Enter, wait for each command to complete, before running the next command, if you receive an error on any command, ignore that and continue to the next command.

    reg delete "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies" /f

    reg delete "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\WindowsSelfHost" /f

    reg delete "HKLM\Software\Policies" /f

    reg delete "HKLM\Software\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Policies" /f

    reg delete "HKLM\Software\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies" /f

reg delete "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows Defender" /v DisableAntiSpyware

    reg delete "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies" /f

    reg delete "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\WindowsSelfHost" /f

    reg delete "HKCU\Software\Policies" /f

    reg delete "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Policies" /f

Then, close Command Prompt and restart (not shut down) your PC.
