Can you make the default for Document libraries to Template "None". The current default is the old out-dated Document .dot template. Our process is to create New > App > Document Library > Advanced Options, then change the template to Document "None" to get rid it. Otherwise, the +New menu on the command bar ONLY shows a content type once we've applied our company Content Type. We lose all of the Office options AND in the past our Mac users encountered errors. If the default was Template None, the we could easily press New > Document library and bypass 4 extra clicks by having to go into the Advanced Options settings. AND save our business users from creating improperly configured libraries. This is critical to us moving forward with provisioning sites.

Currently there is no OOB way to make the default Document Template for Document libraries as "None".

As a workaround, we can create a document library with “None” document template, then save it as a template named “My Document library”.

After that, create a new app based on My Document library instead of OOB document library app.

In this way, we could easily press New >My Document library and bypass 4 extra clicks by having to go into the Advanced Options settings.

If there is no “Save document library as template” option, please refer to following article to solve the issue:

There is no progress on our end other than we continue to manually create all of our libraries with the extra steps to ensure it's template None and not defaulting to the old Word .dot template and all of the other OOTB applications disappearing as soon as we enable Advanced settings to turn on Content Types. I was merely attempting to use this forum to request the engineers to change the default when a user simply clicks +New > Library app, which is what some of our users do and then we must clean up their "unconfigured" libraries by creating a new properly configured library and then migrate their files. Lots of re-work and clean up when if at minimum the +New > Library app default was Template None, this would save a lot of heart ache.
