ERR_CONNECTION_RESET Error on Microsoft Edge

Whenever I try to go onto certain websites, I'll type the URL in the search bar, but then my screen will just display an "ERR_CONNECTION_RESET" message. This has started since about a week ago.

It often happens on more than one website, and I've tried many solutions to try and fix it. I've tried using command prompt to flush DNS, I've tried to clear all browsing data on Microsoft Edge, I've tampered with my network settings but nothing has fixed the problem.

It is also odd, because when I type URL's straight into the search bar, I get this error, but when I manually type the website I want, press enter, and then click the website link that has been brought up in the search engine, I am usually let into the website.

I've tried running a troubleshooter but it hasn't found any problems. I've deleted a VPN app I previously had installed on my laptop, and I've checked my LAN settings too. I don't know what could be causing this problem and would like some advice.

I have found if I turn on my VPN included with Norton 360, the site I have this issue with loads just fine. When I turn the VPN off, I go back to getting the error.

    Dear Marzippan,

    Welcome to Microsft Community.

May I ask whether it will appear error when you type URL's straight into the search bar in other browsers? Would you like to provide me with the error url?

I have noticed that this error occurs on specific pages. So I suspect that the system may require a login or request type, as well as other security restrictions. It is possible that this is a post request and some parameters need to be passed in order to open it correctly.

If there is anything not clear, please do not hesitate to let me know.

    Best regards,

Bob8 | Microsoft Community Support Specialist.

    Hi Bob,

I don't have any other browsers installed on my computer, so I only have Microsoft edge to base this off of. However, I have tried using an incognito window on Microsoft Edge and it hasn't changed anything, and this is the only device I have that is giving me this problem, and they're all connected to the same Wi-Fi.

It is more than one URL that is giving me this problem. For example "memory.com" has been giving me a lot of trouble and I can't access the site if I just type the link into the search bar. Also, I've tried to open some PDF's in my browser, for instance, "www.st-a-and-st-b.s-lanark.sch.uk". However, these are just a few examples, they are not the only websites displaying this error.

Is there anything specific I need to do to fix this problem? If you could provide me with steps I could carry them out and see what helps.

You can type cmd in the taskbar search box, run as administrator, type following commands:

    netsh winsock reset

    press enter

    netsh int ip reset

    press enter

    ipconfig /release

    press enter

    ipconfig /renew

    press enter

    ipconfig /flushdns

    press enter

If there is anything not clear, please do not hesitate to let me know.

    Hi Bob,

I've tried this method quite a few times but it hasn't worked for me at all.

Do you have any other suggestions?
