Windows functions all broken

So my computer today randomly restarted itself when I was doing something else and when it turned back on, the audio was disabled. I tried to fix it with some commands I found online like sfc scannow and dism.exe, and both returned errors saying something wasn't working. I tried windows troubleshooting, updating audio drivers, nothing was nothing. Then I tried to connect a Bluetooth earbud to see if the problem was my headphones and the bluetooth was malfunctioning too. Then I tried to check if windows updates did something and the configuration menus were all acting weird. Windows defender would open but not show anything inside the actual window, it's like every windows function broke at the same time for some reason. I managed to run a disk repair with chkdsk command but that didn't fix anything. Then I tried to run a windows repair with an image but it just said it was unable to repair or revert updates and it didn't state why. I even tried a full new windows install and that returns an error without justification again. I am all out of options and getting desperate because I don't want to wipe the hard drive.

    Hi Nameless -

I'm Jerico T., I understand that you're having some issues right now and I'd be more than happy to help you today.

Please try to perform In-place Repair/Upgrade.

    In-Place Repair

    • In-place repair/upgrade or repair reinstall is a process of re-installing Windows without touching any of your applications or personal files. In this way if there's any data corruption, damaged system files or missing system files on your computer, this repair will fix or repair them.

To start we need to download an ISO file of Windows 10 and save it to your computer. Please follow the instruction on the link below to create an ISO file

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/402819...

After the ISO is created, follow the instructions on the link below created by PaulSey, Microsoft Agent, on how to perform repair install on your computer.

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/for...

This process will take some time to complete so you need to be very patient in waiting until the process completes. Once done, restart your computer and check if the issue is resolved.

Hope this help. Have a good day.

    Thank you,

    Jerico T.

An in place upgrade using a Windows installer usb might be the best option you have besides starting clean and wiping the hard drive as you state it.

Sometimes you just have to start clean. It would obviously deal with the problem. But, you just don't want to. Its not really that bad. Just backup your stuff and make sure its backed up well then go at it. Done the same day and up and running and all good (besides possible hardware related issues anyway).
