Having a problem where PC crashes mostly while playing games

There are 2 ways my PC stops working correctly:

  • The most common: My monitor shuts down, any sound in the background will be replaced with a buzz, before PC reboots;
    • This doesn't really create crash dumps, the method below does
    • I don't know what it was before, but since fixing the second issue(it hasnt occured yet since the fix ill explain below?) now the issue is dwm.exe:
    • <Event xmlns="**http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event**">
  • <System> <Provider Name="Application Error" /><EventID Qualifiers="0">1000</EventID><Version>0</Version><Level>2</Level><Task>100</Task><Opcode>0</Opcode><Keywords>0x80000000000000</Keywords><TimeCreated SystemTime="2022-10-09T15:58:02.4376916Z" /><EventRecordID>24835</EventRecordID><Correlation /><Execution ProcessID="3348" ThreadID="0" /><Channel>Application</Channel><Computer>Arli</Computer><Security /></System>
  • <EventData> <Data>dwm.exe</Data><Data>10.0.22000.1</Data><Data>7cbe2305</Data><Data>dwmcore.dll</Data><Data>10.0.22000.1042</Data><Data>46f96a3b</Data><Data>8898008d</Data><Data>000000000011e9be</Data><Data>28f0</Data><Data>01d8dbf7e75c2cd9</Data><Data>C:\Windows\system32\dwm.exe</Data><Data>C:\Windows\system32\dwmcore.dll</Data><Data>9712b657-8d59-45ed-b360-7a56bc76a306</Data><Data /><Data /></EventData> </Event> With this other warning accompanying it:
  • <System> <Provider Name="Application Error" /><EventID Qualifiers="0">1000</EventID><Version>0</Version><Level>2</Level><Task>100</Task><Opcode>0</Opcode><Keywords>0x80000000000000</Keywords><TimeCreated SystemTime="2022-10-09T15:58:02.4376916Z" /><EventRecordID>24835</EventRecordID><Correlation /><Execution ProcessID="3348" ThreadID="0" /><Channel>Application</Channel><Computer>Arli</Computer><Security /></System>
  • <EventData> <Data>dwm.exe</Data><Data>10.0.22000.1</Data><Data>7cbe2305</Data><Data>dwmcore.dll</Data><Data>10.0.22000.1042</Data><Data>46f96a3b</Data><Data>8898008d</Data><Data>000000000011e9be</Data><Data>28f0</Data><Data>01d8dbf7e75c2cd9</Data><Data>C:\Windows\system32\dwm.exe</Data><Data>C:\Windows\system32\dwmcore.dll</Data><Data>9712b657-8d59-45ed-b360-7a56bc76a306</Data><Data /><Data /></EventData> </Event>
  • Monitor freezes while sound and PC work in the background, this one you have to manually shut down;
    • I think I fixed this one by going into Safe Mode, and putting a new registry in regedit called TdrDdiDelay and setting it to 20
    • Found this out in Whocrashed because of a crashdump it created linked below:
  • What I tried until now:
  1. Did a memtest that completed 4 passes on the 13 tests without problems
  2. Uninstalled graphics card drivers with DDU and reinstalled them 2 separate times
  3. Did the fix(?) above for the second problem
  4. and more that i cant remember, its been too many days now...
  • The specs:
    • Intel Core i5-10400 CPU @ 2.90Ghz
    • NVIDIA Geforce GTX 3060
    • 16GB DDR4 RAM
  • Software:
    • Windows 11 Pro N
    • Game Ready Drivers V 517.48

Hey there! Thank you so much for responding and giving me help.

May I ask if it crashes when you play a specific game or all games?

It would crash/freeze on all kinds of games ex Hearthstone, League, Sekiro, it would sometimes even crash while i was streaming a movie over Discord.

But now after I started fixing, I've only tested with League of Legends because I thought playing games from the external harddrive was causing the crash.

Do you have desktop beautification software like wallpaper engine installed, and if so, turn it off first.

The first I did ironically was remove Wallpaper Engine, but then I don't know what came over me and I put in TranslucentTB to make the taskbar transparent.

I uninstalled that, and I did a clean boot. After ~2 hours of playing League on clean boot, it would have definitely crashed by now, but it seems to me it doesn't crash anymore.

I will test to see which one does this, but if you could check out these pics below of the services I disabled and see if any of them stand out to you in some way.

Thank you so much for the help.

    Dear Arcanius27,

I'm glad to see you in Microsoft Community.

May I ask if it crashes when you play a specific game or all games?

Do you have desktop beautification software like wallpaper engine installed, and if so, turn it off first.

According to the information you have provided so far, I am not sure where the problem is. Let's clean boot and see if it is caused by the three-party software.

    1. In the Search box  on the taskbar, type msconfig and select System Configuration from the list of results.3.
    2. On the Services tab of System Configuration, select Hide all Microsoft services, and then select Disable all. Select Apply.
    3. On the Startup tab of System Configuration, select Open Task Manager.
    4. On the Startup tab in Task Manager, for each Enabled startup item, select the item and then select Disable. (Keep track of which items have been Disabled. You will need to know this later.)
    5. Close Task Manager.
    6. On the Startup tab of System Configuration, select OK. When you restart the computer, it's in a clean boot environment. Follow troubleshooting steps to install, uninstall, or run your application. Your computer might temporarily lose some functionality while in a clean boot environment. Reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting and resume functionality.

Disclaimer: A “clean boot” starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. It helps to determine whether a background program is interfering with your game or program and to isolate the cause of a problem.

These steps of "clean boot" might look complicated at first glance. However, to avoid any trouble for you, please follow them in order and step-by step so that it will help you get you back on track.

If there is anything not clear, please do not hesitate to let me know.

    Best regards,
