Hi i have a problem with my mouse. After i reset my laptop i cannot use my usb mouse. I looked at the device management and the installed driver is Synaptics PS/2 Port Touchpad which not compatible with my usb mouse. And the other thing is that there is no PS/2 port in my laptop. My mouse is working in other pc's. USB's and phone are working on the USB port, only the mouse is not working. I also tried to change the driver but the computer tells me that only the synaptics ps/2 driver is the one compatible with my laptop.

do you think it has something to do with the usb controller in the device manager? since flash drives are working i can send and recieved files. even phones are still working when connected to the usb port,

i also tried to update the usb controller in device manager, although it found a driver but it failed to install. the reason is it is missing a necessary entry. i think there is something in this which will help me use my mouse.

That shouldn't have happened. Mice are PnP so you plug it in and it works as a mouse. That's it.

Its a laptop so the synaptics driver should be its internal touchpad which it should have one or a pointing stick. Forget the ps/2 aspect to keep it simple :)

Since a usb mouse is to work by simply plugging it in then something is blocking it from working. You should find the correct item in Device Manager and see why it failed in its properties. If its not showing up then its the usb port (or listed under hidden) since the mouse is confirmed working elsewhere.
