Does Windows keep installing security updates regardless if you disable auto-updates/pause updates for a certain amount of time?

I noticed after restarting my computer I still got an update to go through despite pausing updates for a week. I was just wondering if it's normal behavior for security updates to continue like this.

Is the only way to stop it by disabling the windows update service itself? What exactly would happen if you tried to check for updates with the service disabled, does it let you know that it can't do anything until you enable it again?

I am Dave, I will help you with this.

If you disable updates, you will still receive security updates, those are very small updates meant to keep your PC sage.

You can pause updates for a specific amount of time, that will block the Windows updates and large cumulative updates for that time, but there is no longer a way to disable updates, they have that blocked, even disabling the Update Service is no longer possible.

The security updates will update the virus definitions and also patch any security flaws found in the Windows system files
