Problems mapping network drive

Hi guys,

I've got an external USB 3 HDD hooked to a USB port on my old router. I recently upgraded to a WiFi 6 mesh system that doesn't have any USB. I have the old router plugged into the new one and the port setup in both the new and old routers. I have successfully added the drive as a network location in Windows Explorer but no matter what I do I can't get it to map so I can actually use it for backup again.

According to the old router the ftp address is ftp://192.168.68.58:21. I can access it via a network location in Windows Explorer just fine. In the port forwarding for the new router it's also listed as 192.168.68.50:21. Every time I try to map it as a network drive (\192.168.68.50:21\Backup-b\Will) I get an error 0x80070035 the network path was not found. It asks for the username and password which I enter then it immediately gives me that error.

Any ideas on how to fix this? I remember have a huge PITA time getting it to work the first time around but that was years ago and I don't remember what I did to make it finally work.

You need to configure your old router to function as Wireless Access Point.

Most current routers have a built in option to do that. There is a way to do it manually if not. Ask if needed. (The problem is what we sometimes calla double NAT (network address translation) situation where your old router is creating a separate sub net.)
