We have 2 server farm and one of the server has a missing patch KB4462184 for Microsoft Search server 2010 core. I tried to install the patch after downloading but at the end it failed with error that installation of the package failed.
What can I do to install this patch, Do I need to extract the installer and then install the patch would this make any difference. I can't test this option straight away as I have to organise a change management process that will take some time.
Any help will be highly appreciated
I was able to install the patch using following utility
devxexec.exe /user:TrustedInstaller

What error are you facing? If possible, please provide a detailed screenshot of the error.
Generally, after downloading the patch, running the patch directly will install the relevant CU.
In addition, SharePoint server 2010 is end of life and we strongly recommend you migrate from SharePoint Server 2010 to higher server version or SharePoint online as soon as possible

Hi Julie, Thanks for the reply yes a project is underway for migrating the environment to SP online. In the mean time I am trying to upgrade the server OS from 2008 to 2012 but after the upgrade I am unable to run the sharepoint configuration wizard due to this missing patch. I have attached the screenshot is there any way to view the logs to understand why it's failing as I can't see any thing in the event logs. Tomorrow I have organised an outage to apply this patch again so any help will be highly appreciated.
Before applying this security update, do you have the release version of Service Pack 2 for Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 installed on the computer?
From your description, you upgrate the OS of the SharePoint server, right?
We don't recommend upgrade for Windows Server with SharePoint installed. Basically, you will have to reinstall SharePoint on the new operating system. It is best practice to re-deploy and re-configure SharePoint on Windows Server 2012.

Yes we have Service Pack 2 installed on the servers, so far we haven't upgraded the OS on the servers still they are 2008 servers. We have performed the in-place upgrade of our DEV and Test environment without any issues. I will look at the recommended option to stood up new WIN 2012 servers. But still we need to apply this patch on the server. I have attached the screenshot of the missing patch
