Nonexistent Mail App taking up space?

My HP laptop has always had some storage issues, but this one has me stumped. According to my storage settings, mail is taking up 17.6 GBs of space - but I don't even have the mail app! In fact, when I click on Mail to manage storage, the only option that comes up is to look for an app in the app store. So how does an app that I don't have take up 17.6 gigs?

If it was active before and contains your OST files and PST, I doubt that uninstalling Outlook would help with the storage issue. Although there is a way to only remove Outlook from the Office installation.

    Here are the steps:

    • Press the Windows key + R then enter appwiz.cpl
    • Select Microsoft Office then click the Change button on the menu
    • Tick the Add or Remove Features option and then click on the Continue button
    • From the drop-down list of programs, locate the Microsoft Outlook option, and then click the disk icon next to it.
    • Set it to Not Available and then Continue
    • That's it. Other apps should remain except for the ones that are set to Not Available.

If you decided to remove Outlook, it is best to look for the location of the files from the Outlook app but it should probably be here by default. I would suggest transferring them to an external disk if you have one in case you need them in the future.

    C:\Users[User Name]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook

When I follow the steps above, I get stuck after clicking "change" - this is the only option I get.

I've gone ahead and removed all of the accounts from inside Outlook as it seems that Outlook 2013 and later can't be uninstalled, but the Mail storage tab from my original post is unchanged.

Thanks, Paulo. I do have Outlook, but I wish I didn't. I don't use it at all, but it seems like the only way to get rid of Outlook is to get rid of Office completely. I don't want that, as I do use the other Office applications. Is there some way to just uninstall Outlook from my computer?

Hi Steffanie, I am Paulo and I'd like to help.

It is not only pertaining to the Mail & Calendar app but any other mail app that's installed on your computer. Do you have Outlook Desktop installed? If so, you should check this article to know the mailbox size you currently have
