"The device cannot be started. (Code 10) {Operation failed}

I have neither changed anything in the settings nor downloaded a new program. All of a sudden the WiFi connection was gone and in Device Manager I got "The device cannot be started. (Code 10)

{Operation failed}

The operation could not be carried out." for the Microsoft Wi-Fi Direct Virtual Adapter #2. I'm assuming this is the cause of my problems.

    Hi Jean,

    I am Dave, I will help you with this.

    The Wi-Fi Direct Virtual Adapter is not related to your WiFi connection, that is for the Hotspot functionality.

    The best option is, on another device, like the one you are using to access this forum, go to the support page for your PC on the manufacturers website, then from there, download the installer for the WiFi (WLAN) card device driver.

    Then, transfer that driver installer to your PC using a USB drive, and install that driver, and restart (not shut down) your PC.
