Windows Explorer Delay

I have an intermittent problem with Windows Explorer under Windows 11 (21H2, 22000.739). When I attempt any operation it takes 1.5 minutes to complete (file move, file delete, file rename). While this is happening there is no unusual disk or CPU activity, apps in other windows operate normally, and a percent complete window may appear. Also, it sometimes takes a very long time to refresh the list of files in a directory - I usually have to reboot to correct this.

Thoughts?

Hello, I’m Virginia, I have 20 years of expertise in fixing my own & friends’ PC problems.

Sorry to hear you’re experiencing problems.

Visit the PC’s manufacturer’s website for any BIOS updates &/or any driver updates.

Check Windows update for any updates.

Right click on start & choose powershell with admin & enter:

    SFC /SCANNOW

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

    Check for any malware infection:

MBAM free: https://www.malwarebytes.com/mwb-download/ ensure scan for rootkits is enabled.

    Eset online scanner: http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner/

    Adwcleaner: https://www.malwarebytes.com/adwcleaner/

If these find one or more infections but do not fully remove them it will be wise to register with a malware removal site to receive dedicated malware removal instructions, an expert will remain with you throughout the process until confirmation that your PC is 100% clean.
