Bad Image error

Every time I try to open CurseForge, I get the following error:

VTableHolderWndProc: OverwolfHelper.exe - bad image

C:\WINDOWS\system32\nvspcap.dll is either not designed to run on windows or it contains an error. try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support. error status 0xc000012f

This seems to be an issue with a Windows file, but I'm not sure why it is happening or how to fix it.

I found a thread with this exact error from 2021 (in fact, I copied the error from it as it is the same error I am getting, and is easier than typing it myself), but for some reason, they locked that thread.

The fix posted there was uninstall GeForce Experience, but I have never had it installed, so that's no use.

I also tried running sfc /scannow, which resulted in "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations."

Hi bobgrey,

If you have a custom bult Pc, then you would need to get the Nvidia drivers for the Nvidia website, it would be best to manually install a slightly older version of that driver, they are more stable than the latest version than Nvidia provide.

    Hi bobgrey,

I think installing that driver and the Nvidia software will fix the bug permanently, please monitor the situation if you receive another error (which I doubt), please provide a screenshot of that.

I did manually install them from the site. I believe it is slightly older, as it came out last month if I remember correctly. Should I go a few versions older?

I did end up installing GeForce Experience just to see what would happen as the only post I've seen about this issue before, mentioned earlier, said to uninstall and reinstall it. I figured if I already didn't have it, might as well install it just see what it does.

It seemed to fix the issue so far, but I feel like it is a temporary or coincidental thing, so I would like to fix it properly. If installing slightly older drivers does that, then it is what I will do.

    Thank you for the help.

PC manufacturer? Do you mean motherboard manufacturer?

I have already removed the graphics drivers and installed newer drivers.

    Hi bobgrey,

I am Dave, I will help you with this.

That error indicates that software named OverWolf is causing a conflict with the Nvidia graphics card device driver on your system.

Completely remove the current Nvidia device driver using the widely available free DDU utility, then restart your PC and go to the support page for your PC on the manufacturer's website to download and install their recommended version of the Nvidia device driver.

You may also need to re-install the latest version of the OverWolf software from their website.
