prime.exe - Application Error (What is this? Where did it come from)?

Can anyone explain to me what this is? Where did it come from? Is it safe? Should it be removed?

prime.exe - Application Error

The Instruction at 0x00007FFA284B3466 referenced memory at 0x0000000000000024. The memory could not be written. Click on OK to terminate the program

There's nothing on my Windows 10 Add/Remove Program list that even closely describes this component. I would have removed it otherwise. What should I do? Otherwise, my PC is running fine.

    Hi Lexx

    Thank you for that information

Click the link below to download a small free utility that does not require installation.

    https://download.sysinternals.com/files/Autorun...

When the file downloads, unzip it.

    Run Autoruns64 as Administrator

In the filter box in Autoruns, type prime

    Does that find any entries?

If it does, please provide a screenshot of the result.

If that does not find any entries for prime, restart your PC and wait for that popup error, then open Task Manager and select the Processes tab, can you find Prime.exe in the list of processes?

if you can, right click that and select 'Open File Location', please provide a screenshot of the resulting folder.

I use Norton 360 I ran a Quick scan nothing came up. I ran Malwarebytes & it came up with 9 PUPS. Nothing was specifically named Prime.exe but all 9 PUPS were deleted. In the future, When I run Malwarebytes, Should I set Malwarebytes to detect, warn, or ignore PUMS & PUPS? How should I proceed? Thank you.

    Hi Lexx

I am Dave, I will help you with this.

prime.exe is usually a crypto coin miner or adware infection.

Download the free version of Malwarebytes and run a full scan with that.

Then in Defender or your preferred 3rd party anti-virus select the option to perform an offline scan, your PC will restart to perform that scan.

Then, check if the error is gone.

I used Malwarebytes as instructed. What are PUPS & PUMS? Should I set both to Warn, Ignore or Detect?

Will this quarantine prime.exe? Are you familiar with this pop up error?
