    Hi again Jakob -

That error is normally for using the tool for direct upgrade. Are you instead following the Follow the steps toward the bottom of the download page here in the section "Using the tool to create installation media:"

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-US/software-downlo...

If so try using another browser, try restarting the PC, if nothing else works then use the alternative download location from TechBench here: https://tb.rg-adguard.net/public.php

Burn to DVD using WIndows Image Burner or create bootable flash using one of the options here: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2376-create...

Feel free to ask back any questions. Based on the results you post back I may have other suggestions if necessary.

What are the status of the important computer files?

    a) files backed up to another disk drive or the cloud

    b) backup images saved to another disk drive or the cloud

    c) no backed up files or images; important files need to be backed up

    d) no backed up files or images: no files need to be backed up

If there are important computer files then steps can be provided.

If there are no important computer files then alternative steps can be provided.

For either method find a flash drive that you can format ( > or = 8 GB).

On a working computer create a bootable Media Creation Tool (MCT) (Windows 10 iso). https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2376-create-bootable-usb-flash-drive-install-windows-10-a.html

    https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/9230-download-windows-10-iso-file.html

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Move the bootable flash drive to the applicable port on the problematic computer.

Boot the computer to the flash drive: https://www.disk-image.com/faq-bootmenu.htm

    Perform a custom install:

(A custom install will install a fresh version of Windows and save files to Windows.old.)

(Drivers and applications need to be reinstalled)

(Important files are restored from Windows.old)

    https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/148005-how-restore-files-windows-old-folder-windows-10-a.html

If there are no important files then perform a clean install:

Hi Jakob. I'm Greg, 10 years awarded Windows MVP, here to help you.

Go to another PC to create bootable media to access Repair Mode to do a Reset, or if it fails do the gold standard Clean install. The bootable media doesn't require a password, has it's own drivers, repair and installation files which often work when Windows or the other Repair Mode doesn't.

To create Windows 10 Installation Media on another PC install Media Creation Tool and follow the steps toward the bottom of the download page here in the section "Using the tool to create installation media:"

https://www.microsoft.com/en-US/software-downlo.... Uncheck the box for Recommended Settings to choose the exact version and bit rate for the target PC only.

Insert media, boot it by powering up PC while pressing the BIOS Boot Menu Key given here: https://www.sysnative.com/forums/hardware-tutor...

If the media won't boot you may need to enter BIOS/UEFI Setup (pressing key given in chart in link above) to turn off Fast Boot or Fast Startup first.

Choose the boot device as a UEFI device if offered, on second screen choose Repair Your Computer, then Troubleshoot Options to try a Reset. Choose the deep clean Reset (saving nothing), with Cloud option. If you have files that aren't backed up skip down to the step to rescue them first.

If that fails choose Install Now, then Custom Install, then at the drive selection screen delete all partitions down to Unallocated Space to get it cleanest, click Next to let it create needed partitions and start install - this makes it foolproof.

Everything needed to get the best possible Clean Install is here: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki.... It is a better install than any amount of money can buy and a great learning experience that will make you the master of your PC because you will learn what works best and how to apply it with your own hands. So take your time to follow each step to make it count!

If you have files that aren't backed up you can use the same bootable media to try to rescue your files first using these methods: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and keep me posted. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.
